SP Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration took part in the community "Valaikapu" ritual, organized in various parts of the city and suburbs including RS Puram, Kuniamuthur, Thondamuthur and Selvapuram
The minister presented the goodies ( including bangles) to the expectant mothers and five varieties of nutritious rice were served to the soon-to-be mothers at the function.
Speaking on the occasion the minister said that government is extending various welfare measures to the pregnant women including Rs, 18,000 maternity assistance scheme, Community Valaikapu, and Amma baby kits.
The expectant mothers should eat nutritious food to give birth to a healthy child insisted the minister on the occasion.
District collector TN. Hariharan presided over the function.
